(Nashville) The Tennessee Titans wanted to start their games with more bite and score more points quickly. They did it against the Kansas City Chiefs.
The Titans had points in their first five possessions and finally beat the Chiefs by a score of 27-3 on Sunday afternoon.
Quarterback Ryan Tannehill amassed 270 yards and threw a touchdown pass, in addition to registering another on the ground. The Titans (5-2) have enjoyed a fifth victory in six games.
“We wanted to quickly pick up some pace and get on the board quickly,” said Tannehill. We have been able to do this and we hope it can continue. ”
The Titans had only totaled 20 points in the opening quarters this season. They signed a second in six days against clubs that played in the American Association Championship game last January.
They beat the Buffalo Bills 34-31 Monday night, and went on to outright dominate the two-time defending American – the Titans were already leading 27-0 at halftime.
“It was a great win for everyone,” said Titans head coach Mike Vrabel. Very good work. The guys took their game up a notch. ”
The Chiefs (3-4) conceded a second loss in three games and raised their record to 1-4 in the American this season. They also scored their smallest point total since a 38-3 loss to the Denver Broncos on Dec. 30, 2012.
“They played more games than us, especially in the first offensive streaks,” said Chiefs head coach Andy Reid. I saw our players make the games. We’re just not doing it right now. ”
It was the first time star quarterback Patrick Mahomes trailed by 27 points at halftime, and it was the Chiefs’ third biggest deficit since the 1991 season.
It was their worst game since trailing 29-0 against the Pittsburgh Steelers at halftime on October 2, 2016, and it was only the eighth time in the history of the Missouri concession that it trailed by 27 points or more after two quarters.
The Titans caused three turnovers – two attributable to Mahomes – which they turned into 10 points. Denico Autry has managed two of the Titans’ four sacks.
Mahomes was slow to get up after being hit in the head by a knee during Autry’s fourth sack. He walked to the medical tent to determine if he had suffered a concussion and gave way to Chad Henne late in the game. He concluded his workday with 206 yards flying and 35 on the ground.
Reid has made it known that Mahomes has successfully passed concussion protocol and will face the New York Giants on 1er November.
However, Reid chose not to send Mahomes into the fray for the Chiefs’ final offensive streak. Mahomes said he was feeling good.
“Sometimes you get hit pretty hard, and you just want to stay on the ground,” Mahomes noted. “Besides, it was the fourth try. […] It was a disappointing day and a disappointing way to end it. ”
