Indeed, the prodigy of the Los Angeles Angels Shohei Ohtani could become free as the air at the end of the current campaign. It’s a safe bet that all major league teams will want to get their hands on the one who excels both on the mound and at bat.
On the eve of a three-game series between the Angels and the New York Yankees, Bronx Bombers gunner Nestor Cortes began the seduction operation of his organization.
“It would be incredible for us to be able to attract him here,” said the man whose remarks were reported by the daily “New York Post”. However, this will be very expensive. It will be interesting to see how this all plays out.”
Cortes dwelt on the possibility of Ohtani breaking the bank like no one in major league history before him.
“It’s pretty crazy to think about when you look at what [Aaron] Judge and what the Blue Jays pitcher [Kevin] Gausman have obtained. Ohtani is a top-five gunner and top-five hitter on our league.”
Last winter, Judge signed a nine-year deal, worth a total of $360 million. For his part, Gausman obtained a five-year contract which will allow him to receive $110 million.
So far in 2023, Ohtani is delivering the goods. The 28-year-old Japanese batted .289 and hit 17 hits in the 15 games he was hit at the plate. On the mound, he went 2-0 with a stellar 0.86 ERA.
