Some 200 vulnerable residents are being forced out of two private residential and long-term care centers (CHSLDs) in southwest Montreal that were placed under guardianship last fall following allegations of abuse.
The Integrated University Health and Social Services Center (CIUSSS) of the West Island of Montreal has confirmed that all patients at the Floralies residences, located in the boroughs of Lachine and LaSalle, will be relocated out of concern. health and safety.
A report by a retired manager from the Ministry of Health, made public last fall, reports “mistreatment in all its forms” in these CHSLDs, in particular violence and negligence on the part of certain employees.
The two residences were placed under guardianship on 1er September 2022, shortly after an outbreak of Strep A killed six people last summer.
The CIUSSS de l’Ouest-de-l’Île-de-Montréal is temporarily administering these establishments following allegations of abuse. In a statement on Monday, the organization said the general situation at these facilities has stabilized since last fall.
“However, in an effort to ensure the long-term well-being, health and safety of residents, we have decided to proceed with the relocation of all residents to other living environments,” said the general manager. assistant to the CIUSSS de l’Ouest-de-l’Île-de-Montréal and provisional administrator of the Floralies, Jean-François Miron.
