Dealing with devastating fires is the promise of Gérald Darmanin, who visited firefighters in Gironde, Tuesday, April 11. The Minister of the Interior announced a plan of 180 million euros, which will allow in particular “to accommodate nearly 1,100 devices to fight fires”. The goal is not to relive the nightmare of last summer, as at La Teste-de-Buch (Gironde). About 72,000 hectares of forest burned in France in 2022, seven times more than the average for the past 15 years.
The state pledges to replant a billion trees
What was exceptional last year may soon become the norm. The fires, which mainly affected Mediterranean areas, are beginning to spread to ecosystems that are located more in the NOTord. To cope, the State has undertaken to replant a billion trees and has chosen aerial control. Indeed, 47 planes and helicopters will be mobilized next summer, against 38 a year ago, and 500 additional firefighters could be deployed.
