Quebec will allocate $10 million per year, for five years, to create new spaces in respite centers for people with disabilities of all ages. This is a “first step”, underlines the Minister responsible for Social Services, Lionel Carmant.
The chief caquiste, François Legault, had promised last summer that in the event of his re-election, sums twice as large – 25 million per year for four years – would be allocated to create 500 new places in respite centers. The promise will be kept, assured Mr. Carmant on Wednesday.
“Caring for a person living with a disability on a daily basis is a huge challenge, which requires courage, dedication and immense energy resources,” said CAQ MP for Soulanges, Marilyne Picard, in a press release. .
Respite services that provide care for people with disabilities outside their homes are a real “breath of oxygen” for families, argued the elected official, who is also the mother of a severely disabled young girl.
