Drones have been a valuable asset to the Ukrainian military since the start of the Russian invasion. These devices are more or less elaborate. Sometimes it’s even civilian drones that are bought off the shelf and “tweaked” by engineers to inflict massive damage on Russian tanks and soldiers. But it seems that this advantage tends to be reduced. The battle of Bakhmout, where they are widely used, obviously allowed the Kremlin soldiers to find the parade.

The frequency of drone remote controls may have changed, but nothing has changed for a few weeks. The Russian army is indeed using more suitable jammers and disrupting the entire area around Bakhmout. “The operational range of drones is increasingly reduced. Before, we could sometimes reach 6, 8 or 10 km, while now, in a very blurred area like Bakhmout, we will be around 500 m.
“Single-use drones”
Xavier Tytelman, an aeronautical defense consultant, notes that the method disrupts piloting and limits the range of aircraft: “The operational range of drones is increasingly reduced. Before, we could sometimes reach 6, 8 or 10 km, while now, in a very blurred area like Bakhmout, we will be around 500 m.
“The result is that there is a number of losses which is very important with drones which will sometimes not survive more than a week.”

Some models will be completely outdated within three to four months while the Ukrainian army is already working on new devices. “Suicide drones are drones that are made in 3D printing, so it will cost less than a thousand euros per dronedetails Xavier Tytelman. But there, these are single-use drones, that is to say that we will launch them knowing that they will be destroyed instantly. So it’s not an observation drone with a long lifespan.”
Drones whose plans and guidance frequencies have the advantage of not being accessible to everyone, thus keeping one step ahead of the adversary.
