The island of Cézembre, off Saint-Malo, is a paradise for wild animals. The hiking trail has just reopened, to the delight of walkers.

The island of Cezembre is anchored in the bay of Saint-Malo (Ille-et-Vilaine). Sylvia Cassagnaucaptain of the Métis, can link it up to 20 times a day when spring arrives. For people who are interested in history and nature, this is a wonderful place”she says. Drowned under Allied bombs during the Second World War, burned with napalm, Cezembre has long been closed to the public.

A path crossed by the history of war

Its beach is now a delight for visitors. The trail offers 800 meters of Landes, decontaminated five years ago. The promontory allows you to enjoy an exceptional panorama. Among the German cannons bordering it, one melted it almost 80 years ago under the influence of napalm. We feel that there was a whole life before us. But the fact of being calm, we feel quite peaceful”says a woman. However, the scars of war still limit access to a large part of Cezembre. Only the birds have taken up residence there.
