The Russians do not want to lose the Crimean peninsula, annexed in 2014. For this, the Russian army is preparing to counter a probable Ukrainian offensive.
Crimea is barricaded. On a road that leads into the territory, thousands of steel pyramids are transported by the Russians. The goal is to stop the next Ukrainian offensive with what are called “dragon’s teeth”. Russia does not want to lose the peninsula annexed in 2014. Satellite images confirm the meteoric progress of fortification work. Between January and February many more trenches were dug and a wall of dragons teeth was erected.
“Putin won’t let go of Crimea”
The scenario is the same on the Crimean Channel. All strategic roads are now bristling with fortifications. “It means that whatever happens, Putin will not let go of Crimea and that he will use all possible means to protect this war prize of 2014”, says General Vincent Desportes, professor of military strategy at Sciences Po and HEC.
