Following the Statement by Minister Bernard Drainville who will send a directive to close the place of meditation at Mont-de-La Salle secondary school, the Laval school service center has indicated that the school will comply with it.

“Following the declaration of the Minister of Education, we will comply with the directives and we are awaiting clarification from the MEQ in this regard,” indicates the Center de services scolaire by email.
This room had been used by the students of the Laval-des-Rapides school since Friday noon in order to prevent young people from praying everywhere inside and outside the establishment, which posed “a risk security,” it says.
“The room was supervised at all times by an adult, adds the Center de services scolaire. Since Monday, a member of management was also present to monitor the premises. The school’s code of conduct had to be respected at all times in this room. The contemplation had to be done in an individual way and no spiritual or religious animation of the room was allowed.
A motion was also adopted unanimously in the National Assembly following this affair, aimed at recalling that “public schools are not places of worship”.

For its part, the National Council of Canadian Muslims has not said its last word.
The group says it is assessing the situation.
“We have big questions to ask ourselves about where the government is going with its interpretation of secularism,” says its CEO, Stephen Brown.
The human rights commission has said it will review the case to see if there is compliance with the charter.
