“We only denounce these killings and it continues tirelessly. I think it is getting out of control”deplores Karima Meziene, lawyer and member of the Collective of Families in Marseille, Monday April 3 on franceinfo, after the triple shooting which left at least three dead and twelve injured in the night from Sunday to Monday in Marseille.
franceinfo. The association is organizing a rally this Monday in the Castellas district, where two of the three shootings took place, a rally to say what?
Karima Meziene. A rally to say that there is a real fed up, that enough is enough. The police fail to carry out investigations because they lack the means, our justice fails to achieve real results, there are many classifications without follow-up. The result is that we have assassins who are overpowered and who continue to kill with impunity in our neighborhoods. This is what plagues Marseille. For us, we need more resources for the police, real police investigations to arrest.
Who are the victims?
The victims are getting younger and younger. There is no device to secure them, for these young people who, unfortunately, are enrolled in these networks and, when they realize how hard they are, would like to get out. But we don’t give them a choice, we sequester them, we beat them. We need real support structures for young minors and an emergency number to get out these young people who are in danger, because today, we can’t identify them.
Is all this also perpetuated because of a form of poverty?
Poverty is the cause of all this. You have to see the living conditions in which they evolve. When we see these deplorable conditions, if only the unsanitary housing, in fact these young people have no future. The easy solution is the one offered by these traffickers. And afterwards, they get caught up in a hellish spiral and everything gets out of control for them.
