After the explosion of a building in the port of Sanary-sur-Mer (Var), the help is still mobilized. Of the five residents, two people are still missing.
Since 5 am, this Tuesday, December 7, it is a race against time for the help mobilized in Sanary-sur-Mer (Var) after the explosion of a building. A woman and her baby were rescued, located by a dog. “We could hear the baby, we had trouble locating it (…) But the dog marked immediately, that allowed us to make a tunnel to go look for this baby “, details Colonel Éric Grohin, departmental director of relief in Var. Her injured mother was also rescued. The 30-year-old father did not survive the collapse, hit in the neck by debris from the roof.
It was on the night of Monday 6 to Tuesday 7 December that the explosion alerted the neighborhood. “I was woken up by a thud, a big ‘woof’. I smelled a funny smell, a smell of dust, gas, junk”, describes a local woman. Like her, many residents came to attend the excavations, moved by the tragedy. “Here, we are like in a village. We get to know each other a lot. We are all the more touched”, reports the mayor of Sanary-sur-Mer. For now, the track of the gas leak is under study.
