The National Syndicate of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery has “succeeded in having 30 Instagram accounts closed” who promoted hyaluronic acid injectors “who have no qualifications”, announces the president of SNCPRE, Adel Louafi Thursday, March 30 on franceinfo.

>>> Influencers: advertising, cosmetic surgery, “influence brigade”… What does the proposed transpartisan law that wants to regulate the sector contain?

On Wednesday, 200 cosmetic surgeons signed a column in Le Parisien Today in France to demand the end of the free sale of this product which “allows to increase the volume of the lips or buttocks, but which can also be used for the treatment of wrinkles”.

Injections performed by hairdressers or beauticians

Currently, this product is available over the counter”both in pharmacies or online”, available without a prescription, which the president of the SNCPRE denounces on franceinfo. Adel Louafi protests against “this loophole in the regulations” which is according to him “the door open to all traffic”. He believes that hyaluronic acid should only be sold to doctors, who are the only ones authorized to make these injections.

According to the union, because of this free sale “Professionals, who are not authorized to make these injections, such as beauticians, hairdressers or masseuses hastened to buy these products and to offer illegal services with a lot of advertising on social networks”. The union indeed points the finger at the influencers who “promote illegal injectors via partnerships”.

“We cannot accept that people who have millions of followers can be complicit in the illegal practice of medicine and deception”

The president of SNCPRE expressed this Thursday his concern about “the explosion of serious cases linked to the injection of hyaluronic acid from confinement”, as much as “all these cases followed illegal injections”. Adel Louafi highlights the risks associated with injections by non-professionals: “If these products are injected directly into a vessel or into an artery, it can lead to dramatic consequences such as necrosis of the nose, infections, sepsis, etc.”.
