Le Puy-de-Dôme celebrates a century of banknote making. A majority of the euros used for 20 years are printed there. And these tickets will soon change illustrations.
Bridges, doors … In 2002, the visual of the seven euro banknotes was consensual so as not to offend any member country. The chosen theme was styles and eras in Europe. The project by Italian designer Robert Kaline was selected. To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the euro, the European Central Bank has decided to reinvent its banknotes. The French government would like to see faces embodying Europe.
This is the work of the think tank bringing together designers, entrepreneurs and historians. Among them, Stéphane Distinguished. “There are plenty of possible ideas and ideas. Are these manufacturers from the EU? Are these people born in one country who went to work in another? Women too?“, explains the prresident of Fabem. The creation process is long. Europeans are not expected to discover the new banknotes until 2025.
