1,234 new cases of COVID-19 identified in Quebec

Quebec reported on Tuesday 1,234 new cases of COVID-19 and five additional deaths from the disease.

Of the new cases, 636 are in people who were unvaccinated or who received a single dose less than 14 days ago, 19 people who received only a single dose at least two weeks ago, and 579 of them had received a second dose at least seven days ago.

The province’s death toll now stands at 457,059 people infected and 11,594 deaths since the start of the pandemic.

235 hospitalizations were reported on Tuesday, an increase of nine compared to the day before. Of these patients, 58 are in intensive care, down from four.

Thirty people entered the hospital on Monday. Fourteen were unvaccinated or had only received a single dose less than 14 days ago and 16 had received a second dose at least seven days ago.

Of three people admitted to intensive care, two were unvaccinated or had only received one dose less than 14 days ago and the other had received a second dose at least seven days ago.

A total of 26,795 samples were taken on December 5.

Regarding vaccination, 20,776 doses have been administered in Quebec in the last 24 hours.

According to the National Institute of Public Health of Quebec, 82.2% of the population has received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine. Among those 12 years and over, 91.3% have received at least one dose and 89.1% are adequately vaccinated.
