Was your school performing fairly well or below expectations? Franceinfo publishes, Wednesday March 29, the 2023 results of general, technological and professional high schools. Two tables show the indicators established by National Education for public and private establishments.

The table of technological and general high schools:

The table of vocational high schools:

Bac results, insufficient indicators

Two grading criteria are based on baccalaureate results:

  • The success ratewhich measures the proportion of students who obtained their baccalaureate among those who presented themselves;
  • The rate of mentionswhich measures the proportion of baccalaureate holders who obtained a mark equal to or greater than 12/20 and who therefore obtained a mention (fairly good, good, etc.).

However, these two indicators alone are not sufficient to assess the performance of an establishment. For example, they do not take into account the differences in student profiles (social origin, sex, level of adolescent entering second, etc.).

Other indicators are therefore added to the baccalaureate pass rates and honours. Firstly there is the probability of access of the second to the baccalaureate, that is to say the percentage of chances of obtaining the baccalaureate in the same high school for a pupil of second. This index makes it possible to value the high schools which keep their pupils whatever their results, and to identify more easily those which operate a selection after the second to obtain a good rate of success in the examination.

“Added values” and performance categories to better compare

For fairer comparisons, National Education also publishes “added values” calculated according to the results expected according to the profiles of the students of each establishment. A high school that obtains a negative score in “added value” therefore performs less well than what the profile of its students would have us hope for.

Finally, franceinfo reproduces the performance grid used by National Education (PDF file, pages 89-91). This method consists of listing high schools according to their success rate and their ability to support their students since the second. The establishments are thus divided into five categories: neutral, support, selective, efficient or below expectations.
