(Tempe) Ryan Nugent-Hopkins broke a tie with 7:55 left in the third period and the Edmonton Oilers defeated the Arizona Coyotes 5-4 Monday night.
Zack Hyman, Evan Bouchard, Darnell Nurse and Leon Draisaitl also found the back of the net for the Oilers, who collected at least one point in the standings in their seventh straight game (6-0-1). Jack Campbell blocked 29 shots.
Connor McDavid picked up an assist and hit the 140-point plateau. He became the first player in the NHL to achieve such a feat since Mario Lemieux and Jaromir Jagr both achieved the feat with the Pittsburgh Penguins in 1995-96.
Wayne Gretzky, in 1987-88, was the last Oilers player to score that many points in a season.
Matias Maccelli and Barrett Hayton had two goals apiece for the Coyotes, who suffered a fifth straight loss.
Lawson Crouse had three assists while goaltender Karel Vejmelka saved 24 pucks.
Nugent-Hopkins scored his 34e goal of the season during a penalty to Clayton Keller. It was the Oilers’ second power-play goal of the game.
