Tiakola, a rising rapper from the Paris region, is at the top of the nominations for the first musical ceremony of the Flames, dedicated to rap and music from popular cultures, scheduled for May 11 at the Théâtre du Châtelet. A response to the lack of representation of rap at the Victoires de la Musique. The nominees in the 13 categories (out of 21) open to public voting were announced on Monday March 27 by the organizers.
Gazo, Josman, Ronisia and Aya Nakamura in the starting blocks
Tiakola, who was named in the hopeful category at the last Victoires de la Musique, and whose album Melo was the 9th best-selling music in France in 2022, has been named eleven times, including for album of the year. He will be opposed to heavyweights Gazo and Josman (9 nominations each).
Among the women, we note Ronisia, an r’n’b sensation born in Cape Verde, nominated seven times, notably in the female artist and female revelation categories. She will have a hard time facing the queen of the hit parades Aya Nakamura, nominated five times.
Voting is open to the public
The public can vote from Monday March 27 until April 10 to nominate three finalists (out of 10 nominated) in each of the 13 categories (out of 21) open to them. The winners of the eight remaining categories (such as the prize for social commitment of the year or that of the album launch strategy of the year) will be chosen by jury vote only, or by decision of the editorial committee of the Flames.
But the majority of the Flames awarded will be the result of the combination of the results of the public vote (which counts for 50% of the final result) and the vote of the jury.
The Booska-P site is at the initiative of Les Flammes with its counterpart, the media-communication agency YARD, in association with the consulting agency Smile, and with the support of the Spotify music platform.
“We were not built in opposition to the Victories“, assures AFP Hamad (without another surname used), co-founder of Booska-P. “Les Victoires is an institution that has existed for a very long time, which has done things well but has failed to understand what rap is and all its other currents. We see ourselves as a complement“.
