Mississippi, United States, suffered very violent tornadoes which swept through several villages and caused serious damage on Friday March 24. The inhabitants are still struggling to realize what they have just suffered.
Locals call this area of the United States “Tornado Alley”, the avenue of tornadoes. In these states in the center of the country, the meteorological phenomena engulf the plains with incredible violence. On Saturday March 25 in the morning, the inhabitants of Mississippi are still dazed. “It’s not unusual to have tornadoes here, but we always tell ourselves that it will hit nearby, and not at home. It’s a risky life choice“, says one of them.
Villages swept away in moments
Friday evening, when the tornadoes arrived, they had only a few minutes to protect themselves. In a few moments, several villages are swept away. “It started around 8:20 p.m., the warning sirens went off to tell people to take shelter […]. Right now school buses are being used to evacuate people out of town“, explains Bruce Williams, sheriff of Humphrey County (Mississippi).
