Cancellation of a show in Frankfurt | A petition to support Roger Waters

Several big names in music have rallied behind Roger Waters to ask that the latter be able to present his show at the Festhalle in Frankfurt.

On February 24, the city council of Frankfurt and the leaders of the Hess region forced the cancellation of the concert scheduled for May 28 as part of the tour This Is Not A Drill. This decision came following remarks made by the co-founder of Pink Floyd and deemed anti-Semitic. Roger Waters criticized in particular the actions of Israel towards the Palestinian population.

Several musicians have decided to start an online petition to support Roger Waters, in the hope that the decision will be reversed. Eric Clapton, Nick Mason, Peter Gabriel, Tom Morello (Rage Against the Machine) and Brian Eno are among the signatories. Actress Susan Sarandon, writer Noam Chomsky and director Ken Loach also offered their support to Roger Waters.

“(We) must not give in to pressure from individuals or groups who would rather see Waters’ music muzzled than face the issues his music brings to light,” reads the Change website. org that hosts the petition. “We call on those who canceled Waters concerts to change their decision. »

As of this writing, more than 17,000 people have signed the petition in support of Waters, which went live two weeks ago. For now, the Frankfurt show remains cancelled. The city of Munich could also ban the presentation of the This Is Not a Drill tour on its territory.

Note that a petition for the maintenance of the cancellation of the concert has also been launched on Change.org. She had collected 464 signatures during our visit.
