You heard it right: hearing aids are increasingly attracting fraudsters. This discreet, multicolored or invisible hearing aid, rechargeable, connected to TV and telephone, can be reimbursed 100% by Social Security since 2021.

This is the “100% health” device, a promise by Emmanuel Macron which was to allow the most precarious to have access to care which they were until now deprived of because it was too expensive. Result: 300,000 additional people fitted each year since the implementation of the reform.

The CNAM filed a criminal complaint

Yes, but now, when we talk about public money, Social Security and 100% support, it rarely falls on deaf ears. And the kings of fraud quickly realized that there was a good opportunity to make a lot of money. Understand: with scams at all levels, people vulnerable to cheating – remember that half of people equipped with hearing aids are over 80 years old -, and hearing centers that are springing up in cities like mushrooms – from 5000 to 6,000 centers in just one year, an increase of 20%…. More centers, more aggressive advertisements, but also false promotions for so-called free prostheses, not to mention cold-calling by fake agents of the Health Insurance.

So many frauds and scams that cost social security dearly: recently, a company was also condemned in the South-West for a fraud of more than one and a half million euros. According to our information, the CNAM has filed a criminal complaint against two companies suspected of false issuance of hearing aids, again for more than one million euros.
