Limiting global warming to 1.5°C within ten years may be difficult, but not impossible. Here are the solutions favored by the IPCC, within everyone’s reach.

Didier Burel has just completed the energy renovation of his house in Saint-Romain-de-Colbosc (Seine-Maritime). He first replaced his oil-fired boiler with a wood heater. “It’s stopped, it doesn’t work. And I have 19.5°C, almost 20°C in the house without the need for heating, because we also did external insulation”, he confides. The hot water tank has also been changed. Its energy label has gone from G to E, and its bills are almost halved.

Ways to limit damage

The work cost him 32,605 euros excluding tax, for a total amount of public aid of 18,500 euros, or 60% of the budget. Renovating buildings is one of the avenues mentioned by the IPCC to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. In transport, we should also develop the bicycle, electric vehicles and public transport. In energy, wind and photovoltaic projects are to be preferred. In agriculture, the carbon balance is improving with less intensive livestock farming, nitrogen fertilizer and more plants. Problem: funding is lacking.
