(Sao Paulo) Brazilian driver Enzo Fittipaldi, who suffered a serious accident at the start of the Formula 2 race of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix on Sunday with Frenchman Théo Pourchaire, gave reassuring news on Monday and said he would return “soon”.
“I am very happy that Theo is doing well. I’ll be back on track soon and faster than ever, ”the 20-year-old said on his Twitter account.
The young man accompanied his message with a photo taken from his hospital bed, on which he raises his thumb and where his left eye appears bruised.
Enzo Fittipaldi, the grandson of former double Formula 1 world champion Emerson Fittipaldi (1972 and 1974), crashed into Pourchaire when he stalled on the starting grid of the Jeddah street circuit.
The race was immediately interrupted, to start again forty minutes later, then to stop definitively and prematurely after another minor accident and a new red flag.
I am so thankful that I only broke my heel and had a few cuts and bruises. Thank you all for the messages, as well as the FIA [Fédération internationale de l’automobile] and the medical staff for taking care of me.

Théo Pourchaire, 18, reassured his fans on Sunday evening, declaring that he was “generally well”.
“Hi everyone, I just wanted to let you know that I’m doing well overall. At the moment, I don’t know if it’s the end of the season for me. But most importantly, it’s not that. It’s because it was really a big accident and Enzo is injured. I wish him the best possible recovery, ”Pourchaire wrote on Twitter on Sunday evening.
