(Edmonton) Edmonton police say the two officers shot to death by a 16-year-old boy on Thursday had no indication they were about to intervene in a risky or dangerous situation.
Authorities said there was no sign the teen, who later killed himself by turning the gun on himself, was armed. Police had been called to the apartment by the boy’s mother, who said she had been in trouble with her son.
The two police officers were shot several times before they could enter the apartment.
According to law enforcement, the youth did not have a criminal record or an outstanding warrant for his arrest, but was known to police due to a previous call regarding his mental health.
The boy also allegedly shot his mother as the two struggled for her gun. She is still in the hospital.
