COVID-19: the Omicron variant is not circulating in Quebec, according to the INSPQ

The Omicron variant is not yet circulating in the Quebec population, according to a survey by the National Institute of Public Health of Quebec (INSPQ).

“Currently, this variant does not seem to be circulating in the community, apart from cases related to travelers,” indicates the INSPQ.

The Institute “screened” 894 COVID-19 positive samples dating from November 30, and no Omicron variants were detected.

To date, the only case located in Quebec comes from a traveler returning home after a stay in Nigeria. “Cases from travelers and their contacts are being investigated to determine whether they are cases of the Omicron variant”, specifies the INSPQ.
