The Quebec Retail Trade Council (CQCD) in its latest Barometer reveals that while more than 2 out of 5 Quebecers tend to favor buying local, they are much more numerous when it comes to everyday goods (69%).
Even if the price is a brake on local trade (57%), Quebecers are 51% to opt for durable goods and 44% for fashion goods, while 36% are not ready to pay more for a local product. .
In addition, 64% of consumers surveyed say they have increased or left unchanged their frequency of purchasing Quebec products, unlike 57% last October, a trend that can be explained by the desire to encourage local products.
Regarding the “Product of Quebec” or “Made in Quebec” certification mark, even if the majority of consumers have heard of it, 39% of them admit that they are not ready to pay more for these products.
“Although we understand that the current economic situation is not always favorable to these consumer choices, we must realize that these actions concretely help the Quebec economy,” said Damien Silès, General Manager of the CQCD. .
