“It is the debasement of women to the highest degree”, the life imprisonment required

On the third day of the trial of Hocine Hamoudi, accused of raping and beating to death his ex-companion, Sandra Helleputte, the Advocate General requested life imprisonment for the defendant. He insisted on the barbarism of the facts and on his certainty of a recurrence.

The Advocate General requested life imprisonment for Hocine Hamoudi, on March 16, before the Assises du Nord. He gravely urged the jurors to punish “the most barbaric facts [qu’il ait] had to examine in 20 years of Court of Assizes.”

Hocine Hamoudi has been appearing since March 14 for the rape and murder of his ex-companion, Sandra Helleputte, in Hazebrouck.

At the helm, Hocine Hamoudi denies the rape, and the intention to kill. But the Advocate General disagreed. He speaks of a relentlessness against Sandra Helleputte: “It’s a real tsunami to kill, and which lasted a very long time. It’s the negation of all dignity, the debasement of women to the highest degree”.

It is the negation of all dignity, the debasement of woman to the highest degree.

Sébastien Piève, General Counsel

He spoke of the defendant as a “conjugal predator”running a business of “calculated manipulation”. With each of the releases from which he benefited, Hocine Hamoudi made a new victim. He appeared incarcerated for acts of rape and violence against a spouse, committed in 2021 on another woman.

The Advocate General returned, on several occasions, to his personal conviction of an inevitable recurrence: “If he’s released, he’ll start over on another woman and he’ll do the same thing.” The four psychiatric experts interviewed did not accept the impaired judgment of the defendant.

For his part, the defense lawyer, Me Legrand called not to make Hocine Hamoudi “an example”judging the sentence required “disproportionate. To elevate Hocine Hamoudi to the rank of great blood criminals is perfectly ridiculous”he estimated with France 3.

“Everyone is in their role, that’s what makes a contradictory Justice. As a professional, I hear the speech of the defense. It seems to me the reasons why life imprisonment is required is that he considers that ‘we must exclude this man from society, because he is dangerous and he does not question himself” for his part estimated Me Blandine Lejeune, lawyer for the civil parties.

1er May 2015, Sandra Helleputte, 41 years old and mother of four children, was discovered at her home by her eldest son, unconscious, lying in a pool of blood, his clothes torn off by force. The autopsy revealed 144 lesions on Sandra Helleputte’s body, some of which were inflicted by sharp objects.

According to Erwan Le Garff, a forensic doctor heard by the Court of Assizes, the mother of the family suffered martyrdom. He rates the intensity of this suffering at 6/7 or even 7/7. His ordeal could last up to 5 hours.

The verdict in this case is expected on March 17. Before the jurors retire to deliberate, Hocine Hamoudi will be heard by the Court one last time.
