The flames are currently ravaging the condos of Place D’Youville, in the Old Montreal area. Firefighters are still on the scene trying to bring the blaze under control.
The fire broke out around 5:40 a.m. Thursday and required a fifth alarm. The flames were still apparent almost an hour later.
Several residents were evacuated and no serious injuries have been reported so far, said Patrick Fournel, section chief at the Montreal Fire Department (SIM). Citizens inconvenienced by the smoke were transported to the hospital.
The cause of the fire that ravaged this three-storey building is unknown at this time. Nearly 120 firefighters are on site.
