According to data collected for the firm DesRosiers Automotive, the month of November ended with total sales in Canada of 110,448 vehicles. This is a decrease of 13.9% compared to the same period last year. DesRosiers specifies that manufacturers are more severely affected than others by the weakness of their production, a context which should last until the supply chain returns to normal. The gluttony of hybrid and electric vehicles in semiconductors is not helping the industry’s slow recovery.

The effect of this slowdown is affecting the Canadian auto industry. Still according to figures from DesRosiers, the number of vehicles assembled in the country fell by 16.8% in October 2021 compared to October 2020. When compared with production figures from five years ago , the drop is about 50%. In addition to the semiconductor crisis, DesRosiers points to electrification, but also the changes regarding models assembled in Canada.
