Canadians will be in the spotlight at one of Hollywood’s biggest nights, as they’re up for Oscars in some of the most sought-after categories.
Ontario-born filmmakers Sarah Polley and James Cameron will compete in the Best Picture category for their respective feature films, what they say And Avatar: The Way of the Water.
Polley is also up for Best Fit Screenplay for her take on the novel. What they say of Miriam Toews in 2018.
Canadian-American actor Brendan Fraser is nominated for best lead actor for his role in the film. The whale by Darren Aronofsky.
Montreal makeup artist Adrien Morot is also nominated for his makeup and hair styling work in the film, starring Judy Chin and Anne Marie Bradley.
Meanwhile, Toronto filmmaker Domee Shi is competing for Best Animated Feature, Red alertwhile Calgary’s Wendy Tilby and Amanda Forbis are nominated for Best Animated Short with The flying sailor.
Two Canadians are in the running for Best Documentary Feature: Montreal’s Ina Fichman is part of the team nominated for the Canadian-American film In the heart of the volcanoes and Toronto director Daniel Roher for the documentary Navalny, about the poisoning of a political opponent in Russia.
Bryan Litson, who works in the Vancouver office of creative studio Framestore, is up for a visual effects award for his work on Top Gun: Maverickwith Ryan Tudhope, Seth Hill and Scott R. Fisher.
The 95th Academy Awards premiere Sunday night at 8 p.m. ET and will air in Canada on CTV.
