The Quebec flag will fly at half mast above the Parliament Building on Saturday in memory of the victims of COVID-19.
All government buildings will also lower the Quebec flag to mark the National Day of Commemoration in memory of the victims of COVID-19. Like last year, there will be no ceremony.
“Three years later, my thoughts are still with the families and loved ones of the victims,” Prime Minister François Legault said on Twitter.
Federal Minister of Health Jean-Yves Duclos also honored the memory of more than 51,000 people who died in the country in a statement shared on social networks.
“It is also a day of recognition of the immense resilience and sacrifices of Canadians. We take this opportunity to express our gratitude to all the medical professionals and essential workers who, with compassion, tirelessness and courage, have remained on the front lines throughout the pandemic,” he stressed.
While the virus continues to circulate in the country and around the world, “its effects are still being felt on our health system”, added the Minister, however, encouraging the population to receive all the recommended vaccines and to continue to apply the personal protection measures.
