PGA Players Championship | Rain cuts round two short

(Ponte Vedra Beach) Chad Ramey became the only player to show a -10 cumulative score at the PGA Players Championship. The TPC Sawgrass, as usual, had the last laugh.

Ramey got two balls in the water at 17e hole on Friday and he scored a quintuple bogey that cost him a three-shot lead.

The second round of the tournament was suspended after half of the players were unable to complete it because a storm was expected to dump 13mm of water onto the course.

Canadian Adam Svensson and South African Christiann Bezuidenhout shared the lead with a cumulative score of -8. They had no bogeys on Friday — after 14 holes for Bezuidenhout and 11 holes for Svensson.

American Ben Griffin is the leader at the chalet. He had a superb round until he double-bogeyed on the last hole to put up a 71 (-1) card.

Griffin shows a cumulative score of -6. Two-time major champion Collin Morikawa is also -6 after 11 holes, as is Min Woo Lee after 15 holes.

“I’m kind of happy that the rain delay and that the thunder came. I’m letting my putter rest a bit and hopefully I can come out strong tomorrow,” Morikawa said.

Players will be back at 7 a.m. Saturday to complete round two. The third round is then scheduled as a trio on two tee boxes.

Defending Masters champion Scottie Scheffler struggled early in the round but pulled himself together. He had a birdie on his last two holes before the suspension of play and he shows a cumulative score of -5. He is joined by Canadian Taylor Pendrith in sixth place.

The TPC Sawgrass course delivered some brutal punishment in the second round.

Max McGreevy shot 89, 20 more than in the first round, to tie the worst score in course history. Michael Campbell set this unenviable record in 2003.

Canadian Adam Hadwin is part of a group of seven golfers to tie for eighth place at -4, including Ramey.

Ramey took the tournament lead after posting a 64 on Thursday and had two quick birdies on Friday. He found himself at -10 before his misadventure at 17e pennant.

Corey Conners (68)e), Nick Taylor (91e) and Mackenzie Hughes (91e) are the other maple leaf representatives present at the tournament.
