the farewell to the “entertainer” of Béarn

He defined himself as “an entertainer”, probably because he was born on April 1st. Marcel Amont was just that, a light, catchy, mischievous style. Set up in Paris in the 1950s, he opened for by Edith Piaf at the Olympia in 1956. From then on, he enjoyed success and became a new popular star. Marcel Amont then strings hits that will stand the test of time.

Memories of his cousin

The singer does not fail to always claim his Béarn origins. In his village of Morlaas (Pyrénées-Atlantiques), his cousin, Paul Bourhaben-Cazala remembers the good times spent together. “Sometimes, we pushed the song a little bit while having a bite to eat. There were little things, Béarn tunes that came back to him then, we sang them. (…). It was Marcel”, he testifies. While his career was at the bottom of the wave, it was Georges Brassens who helped him get back on his feet, with Mireille’s hat. “We are sowers of refrains, the songs punctuate people’s lives”testified the singer in an interview in 2013.
