India celebrates Holi, the festival of spring colors

(Mathura, India) In the village of Baldeo in northern India, Hindu worshipers smear themselves with ‘gulal’ or colored powder to celebrate Holi, the Hindu spring festival of colours.

“A rain of colors falls on the region of Braj on the occasion of the celebration of Holi. This is the time when even the gods join in the festivities here at Dauji Temple,” says devotee Anoop Kumar.

“When humans appeared on earth, Lord Krishna played Holi. Holi is one of the most popular and important festivals in Hinduism,” adds Vrindavan Das, a devotee of the deity Krishna.
