St. Lawrence | Second arson in three weeks in an industrial sector

(Montreal) For the second time in less than three weeks, a fire started by a criminal hand caused damage to a commercial building in the same industrial sector of the borough of Saint-Laurent, early Tuesday morning, in the north -west of Montreal.

The Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM), which inherited the investigation into this case, affirms that the damage was limited by the intervention of firefighters from the Montreal Fire Safety Service (SSIM) and that there were no apparent injuries.

Around 1:10 a.m., firefighters asked for help from the SPVM regarding the fire that had broken out in the building located on Montée de Liesse, near the intersection of chemin de la Côte-Vertu.

The firefighters first noticed that a window in the facade of the building had been shattered. After the flames were extinguished, they observed in the rubble that accelerators had been used inside to fan the flames.

A security perimeter has been erected to allow investigators from the SPVM arson squad to elucidate this case.

This is the second time in about three weeks that an arson attack has broken out in this area.

On February 16, about 200 meters away, a commercial establishment was damaged by fire on rue McCaffrey, near the intersection of Montée de Liesse. There too, a break in a window of the facade of the building had been noted and an incendiary object had been found inside.
