Tyler Toffoli leads the Flames to victory with a late goal
Nick Ritchie scored on his Calgary Flames debut and Tyler Toffoli scored on a breakaway with 4.7 seconds left as the Flames beat the Dallas Stars 5-4 on Monday night in their first win in six games.
The Stars overcame a two-goal deficit, and even tied the game thanks to captain Jamie Benn’s goal with just under six minutes left.
After the Stars failed to capitalize on a late power play following a penalty against Ritchie, the game appeared to be headed for overtime. But Toffoli scored his 26e goal with a wrist shot in front of goalkeeper Jake Oettinger after an assist from Jonathan Huberdeau.
Huberdeau also had an assist on Ritchie’s goal less than four minutes into the game. Oettinger saved his shot, but couldn’t recover the puck, when Ritchie slid it into the net for the game’s first goal.
Nikita Zadorov, Elias Lindholm and Rasmus Andersson also scored for the Flames, who were 0-3-2 in their previous five games.
Jason Robertson scored his 38e goal for the Stars and Roope Hintz his 30e aim. Max Domi scored his first goal for the Stars since being traded by the Chicago Blackhawks just after the Stars played at the Blackhawks on Thursday night.
The Flames acquired Ritchie, 27, just before Friday’s trade deadline from the Arizona Coyotes for his older brother, Brett. Young Ritchie had scored nine goals in 58 games with the Coyotes.
