Benefiting from one or more days of sick leave in the event of painful periods is the principle of menstrual leave, supposed to improve well-being at work. A measure which currently only exists on a case-by-case basis in France, as in Strasbourg, in the start-up Black Bird.
Web designer for a year and a half within her company Black Bird, Marion Oberlé has used the menstrual leave, set up within her start-up, twice since the 1er January. “It’s especially hard to concentrate when you have cramps and pain. It is really a chance to be able to rest”, she says. Black Bird is a company specializing in supporting companies through their website. It has 30 employees, including six women, who can pose one day a month confidentially. No medical certificate is required.
“It’s nice to say that we take into consideration something that is not chosen”, says Louise Dalvai, manager. And the company is not losing. “My clients expect quality work, in a job that requires concentration and something very specific. I guarantee my clients this expertise if they are people who are able to do it”, Judge Jérémy Bouchet, CEO of Black Bird. On February 16, the Spanish government approved the establishment of paid sick leave in the event of disabling periods.
