As Christmas is fast approaching, and with the resurgence of the Covid-19 epidemic, the French flocked to stores to do their shopping on Sunday, December 5.

The race for Christmas presents is officially on. The stores were taken by storm this weekend of Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 December. The holidays are in three weeks, but many French people wanted to start their purchases in advance. Some fear new measures related to Covid-19 and the Omicron variant. “We anticipate a little more. We had all these months to save. Financially, it’s a little better. But the queue is three times bigger than usual”, advances a man, in Paris.

This was also the case in Lille (North) and Bordeaux (Gironde) in particular. Others prefer not to think about the virus. “We are vaccinated, we took our precautions, we are starting to get used to it, we have to be positive”, argues a woman. Merchants are also seeing this increase in footfall in shops. The crowds were dense. There are only 20 days left to finish shopping before the holiday season.
