Alpine Skiing World Cup | Mikaela Shiffrin will still have to wait for the winning record

(Kvitfjell) American Mikaela Shiffrin failed again in her attempt to sign the 86e victory of his career in the Alpine Skiing World Cup after his seventh place in the super-G in Kvitfjell on Sunday.

At the end of the test, presented under changing weather conditions, Shiffrin achieved a time of one minute 30.23 seconds.

Austrian skiers monopolized the podium. Nina Ortlieb earned the gold medal with a time of 1:29.25. She was ahead of Stephanie Venier by 12 hundredths of a second and Franziska Gritsch by 38 hundredths of a second.

Nina Ortlieb climbed to the top step of the podium.

Of the two Canadians entered in the competition, Stefanie Fleckenstein of Whistler, B.C., was the top with a 37e spot, in 1:32.03. Franco-Ontarian Valérie Grenier failed to complete the race.

Shiffrin’s next triumph will see him equal the all-time record of 86 Alpine Skiing World Cup victories, which belongs to Sweden’s Ingemar Stenmark, whose 16-season career spanned from 1974 to 1989.

However, this next triumph could be achieved in the lands of the famous Swedish, since Shiffrin must participate in the giant slalom of Are, next Friday.

Shiffrin’s last World Cup victory dates back to January 28, in a slalom held in the Czech Republic. Since then, she has taken part in four World Cup events, the calendar of which was interrupted by the presentation of the Alpine Skiing World Championships, in France, from February 5 to 19.

During these championships, Shiffrin collected three medals, one gold, in giant slalom, and two silver. She notably finished second in the slalom behind Quebecer Laurence St-Germain on February 18.

Shiffrin is already guaranteed to finish first in the overall World Cup standings following her fifth-place finish in the downhill on Saturday.
