Since 1930, when the very first horoscope column appeared in the Sunday Express, one thing is certain, astrology has come a long way. Now taken very seriously by the younger generations, this universe once considered corny has completely conquered the younger generations and has probably never been dissected so much… Such a craze that it is legitimate to wonder if our astrological sign can have negative or positive consequences during a recruitment process…

“I was skeptical about hiring a Scorpion”

By displaying your full date of birth on your resume, know that you are telling your recruiter your astrological sign. Information that may be important for the person who will have your CV in their hands. Indeed, the recruiter in question can, consciously or not, draw conclusions about your profile, your seriousness and your personality.

The proof, questioned by our colleagues from 20 Minutes in March 2022, Elodie *, a young woman working in human resources, said that she checked the astrological signs of the candidates who applied for the positions for which she had published an advertisement.

“I was skeptical about hiring a Scorpion. We already had two Lions in the team, it would have been a lot of strong characters for it to get along well”, confided the latter. And to add: “If the candidate details his date of birth, that will inevitably influence me. I know it’s not well seen, but it’s stronger than me. With confinements, digitization and visios, there are few ways to really know a candidate. Astrology remains a trail like any other… “, had defended the latter.

More recently, on the set of “Touche pas à mon poste”, Thursday March 2, 2023, Matthieu Delormeau made it known that he systematically refused to recruit Scorpions ascending Scorpions because of their personality which he considers “destructive”.

A practice not prohibited

If the astral sign does not appear in the long list of discriminations enumerated in the Labor Code (L1132-1), this practice is however formally discouraged… Circular DRT 93-10 of March 15, 1993 indicates that it is ” inopportune to resort to methods with random results, such as astrology, numerology, or even graphology, whose predictive validity from the point of view of fitness for use is by no means established”.

A piece of advice, if in doubt, it is better to indicate your age and not your date of birth on your CV… And in particular if you are Gemini or Scorpio, two of the least appreciated signs of the zodiac!
