(Warsaw) Chief of the Defense Staff, General Wayne Eyre, has just completed a visit to the Ukrainian capital, the Ministry of National Defense said.
General Eyre received detailed information from members of the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, including his counterpart, General Valery Zaluzhny, according to a ministry statement released on Saturday.
He also met Ukrainian soldiers, some of whom had been trained under Operation UNIFIER, which trains Ukrainians in the UK and Poland.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced late last month that Canada would donate four additional Leopard 2 battle tanks to support the Ukrainian Armed Forces in their defense against invading Russian forces, further Canada’s contribution to eight tanks in total.
He will also donate an armored recovery vehicle and more than 5,000 munitions.
According to the statement, General Eyre observed “the tangible results of Canada’s assistance” and discussed “the contribution of Canada and the Canadian Armed Forces to meeting Ukraine’s future needs”.
“During his meeting with General Valeri Zaluzhny, General Eyre reiterated the Canadian Armed Forces’ unwavering commitment to maintaining solidarity with Ukraine and promised to continue to assist Ukraine directly or in cooperation with allies in Eastern Europe,” the statement said, adding that the general was touched by his meetings with the military.

The Chief of Staff also met with Canada’s Ambassador to Ukraine, Larisa Galadza, to share views from Ottawa and Kyiv.
