“We come to give courage to the country, while it is immersed in absurd debates on matters of religion or skin color, he chanted. No, France is not the extreme right, France is Social Security, public health, school, research, sharing. “

While the left is divided in the race for the Elysée, Jean-Luc Mélenchon also launched, on Sunday, his “People’s Union parliament”, by participating in the morning in the first monthly meeting of the 200 members of this body. He thus intends to broaden his support, so as not to be reduced to the only rebellious France, sometimes criticized for its lack of collegiality in decisions.

The economist Aurélie Found, a prominent figure of the left of social movements, left the presidency of Attac to take that of this “parliament”. The parliament also counts in its ranks the writer Annie Ernaux, the trade unionist CGT Xavier, as well as some politicians, like Thomas Portes, ex-spokesperson for Sandrine Rousseau during the primary of the Greens. The father of Secretary of State Marlène Schiappa, historian Jean-Marc Schiappa, is also part of the team.
