After an exceptionally dry winter, mainland France risks experiencing a new summer drought, after that of 2022. Five departments are already on heightened alert and water restriction measures have been put in place there. Beyond these emergencies, Emma Haziza, expert in hydrology, specialist in the adaptation of our societies to climate change, looks at solutions for better managing water resources.

It did not rain (or hardly any) between January 21 and and February 21 this year, 32 consecutive days with rainfall below 1 mm, a new historical record. The groundwater level is comparable to that of May in normal times in certain sectors.
What innovations, what research can France consider in order not to find itself dry? Is the reuse of wastewater, as is already done in Israel, transferable?
