A years-long labor dispute at Notre-Dame-des-Neiges Cemetery took on a new dimension on January 12 when employees responsible for maintaining the site joined unionized office workers in their general strike unlimited, thus forming a common front against their employer, the Fabrique of the parish of Notre-Dame de Montréal. The office workers had already been on strike since September 20. The result is poor maintenance of this huge cemetery, located at the foot of Mount Royal. Site managers have also decided to temporarily close this cemetery to visitors, with the exception of bereaved families who have made an appointment, due to the ongoing strike.
