François Legault wants to give another chance to the commissioner of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, Gilles Courteau, plunged into the middle of a storm due to allegations of sexual misconduct in his league.
Asked at a press conference on Friday whether he still trusted Mr. Courteau, the Prime Minister said he was concerned. Mr. Legault said he preferred to hear it first in a parliamentary committee hearing.
The big boss of the league has already said that he does not intend to resign, even if the Liberal Party and Quebec solidaire claim his head.
What’s more, he was accused of perjuring himself on the same issue in a parliamentary committee last week.
He then said that no case reported in his league was similar to those described in a judgment rendered by an Ontario court.
However, Stephen Quirk, the only QMJHL player involved in the class action petition filed before Judge Paul Perrel of the Ontario Superior Court, reported having been the victim of degrading and shocking treatment.
In a press scrum, Mr. Courteau had indicated that there was no sexual connotation in the testimony of Stephen Quirk. Conversely, the player did say he had been sexually abused.
