The National Assembly voted in first reading the establishment of a numerical majority at 15 years. What is it about ? Present on the set of 12/13, Friday March 3, journalist Caroline Motte explains it to us.
On Friday March 3, the National Assembly voted to establish a numerical majority at 15 years old. It means that “to register on a social network like tiktokSnapchat or Instagram, children under 15 will have to ask their parents’ permission”, specifies the journalist Caroline Motte, present on the set of 12/13. This was decided following a rather worrying figure: “According to the CNIL, the National Commission for Computing and Liberties, the first registration on a social network is done on average at 8 and a half years old”continues the journalist.
Sanctions in the event of non-implementation of the measure
The French there “are very favourable, according to an IFOP study, 77% of them think that it is a good thing to pass this numerical majority to 15 years”, describes Caroline Motte. But how will this be implemented. “Platforms will have to put in place a solution to verify age or request parental consent. A few ideas are being studied, such as a bank imprint or facial recognition, but nothing has been decided”, says the journalist. Companies that do not play the game will be fined up to 1% of their worldwide turnover.
