“Neither good nor friendly”, Mohammed VI and Emmanuel Macron in cold? Morocco responds to the President of the Republic!

“Good” for Emmanuel Macron, “neither good nor friendly” for the Moroccan authorities. While the President of the French Republic prided himself on maintaining excellent relations with Morocco, now Rabat is destroying his speech, as a government source reports Young Africa this Thursday, March 2.

It was on Monday February 27 that the French Head of State assured the contrary. While he was in Africa and held a press conference to present his strategy on the continent, Brigitte Macron’s companion assured: “We will move forward, the period is not the best but that will not stop me”. Emmanuel Macron went further and even said: “My desire is really to move forward with Morocco. The king knows this, we have had several discussions, there are personal relations which are friendly”. But on the side of Rabat, the feeling would not be the same as for the relations between France and Morocco. In any case, this is what a government source told our colleagues.

Emmanuel Macron and Morocco on bad terms?

According to this, the Moroccan authorities distance themselves from Emmanuel Macron and the speech of the President of the French Republic during his last press conference: “Relations are neither friendly nor good, any more between the two governments than between the Royal Palace and the Élysée”they retort.

On the side of Rabat, we indeed underline several “deliberately concealed tension points”. Our colleagues fromTF1 News also note that the visits of Emmanuel Macron, repeatedly canceled, do not help the situation between the two countries. A visit was indeed scheduled for the end of 2022, before being postponed to February 2023. In the end, neither of the two visits was honored by the French Head of State. The next should take place in March, unless a new cancellation is announced…
