The president of the French Association against Myopathies (AFM), Laurence Tiennot-Herment, praised the strong participation of the French in the 35th edition of the Telethon, live from Evry-Courcouronnes (Essonne).
The 35th edition of the Telethon returns to the best years in terms of donations. The pledges collected this year amount to more than 73.6 million euros. “A superb mobilization and a wind of hope, solidarity and emotions”, describes Laurence Tiennot-Herment, the president of the French Association against myopathies (AFM). There were great victories, lives saved, very moving testimonies like that of Pierre: “My muscles are failing me”, he said live on France Televisions. Viewers were sensitive and gave.
A great generosity which will allow the AFM to continue its fight and to finance the researchers who are convinced that “the first victories showed the way”: “We know how to progress for different diseases. It’s just a question of means”. This Telethon of Hope has shown, according to Laurence Tiennot-Herment “how the event is a revolution in medicine that benefits rare diseases, and well beyond”.
