The corruption scandal that rocked the Tokyo Olympics gained momentum on Tuesday when Japanese advertising agency Dentsu and five other companies were indicted by Tokyo district prosecutors.
The leaders and managers of each of the companies targeted, as well as an official of the Tokyo Olympics organizing committee, have been accused of violating Japanese antitrust laws.
As of now, no date has been set for the trials.
The charges center around companies and individuals who allegedly colluded in the awarding of contracts for the Olympics, as well as the test events that were presented before they were held, prosecutors said.
Among the companies that have been indicted are Dentsu Group, Hakuhodo, Tokyo Agency and Cerespo. They are all involved in the organization of events, sports promotions and other marketing campaigns.
Yasuo Mori, a leader of Japan’s Olympic movement, and Koji Henmi, who heads Dentsu’s sports sector, are among the seven defendants in the case. Mori and Henmi were arrested earlier this month.
