(Bakouriani) Canadians Jasmine Baird and Émeraude Maheux broke through the top 10 in slopestyle at the World Snowboard Championships in Bakuriani, Georgia on Monday.
Baird, of Mississauga, and Maheux, of Saint-Faustin–Lac-Carré, finished ninth and 10e ranks in the final by virtue of scores of 69.65 and 68.38 points, respectively.
The event was won by Britain’s Mia Brooks with 91.38 points, ahead of New Zealand’s Zoi Sadowski Synnott (88.78) and Japan’s Miyabi Onitsuka (83.05).
Laurie Blouin, from Stoneham-et-Tewksbury, couldn’t make it past qualifying. Blouin was crowned slopestyle world champion in Spain in 2017, and high jump in Aspen, Colorado, in 2021.
On the men’s side, Norwegian Markus Cleveland triumphed ahead of Japanese Ryoma Kimata and American Chris Corning, respectively.
The Canadians Cameron Spalding, Liam Brearley, Nicolas Laframboise and Francis Jobin could not pass the qualifications.
