(Nashville) Barry Trotz is back with the Nashville Predators where he will replace David Poile, the only general manager in the history of this National Hockey League franchise.
The team’s management announced the decision on Sunday. The change will come into effect at the end of June.
Poile will step down from the role he has held for more than 25 years and become an advisor to the team’s owners, business and hockey operations.
“This is a decision that is the best for me, personally, and for the Nashville Predators,” Poile said in a press release.
“For the Predators, I believe the time has come for a new voice to be heard and to take a new direction. I am proud of the foundations we have put in place within our hockey operations, by investing and improving all facets of the department. It’s a good time to allow someone else to move our dealership forward. »
Trotz led the Predators from the organization’s first season in 1998 until 2014. He holds the record for most wins by a head coach in team history.
In 2018, he was the head coach of the Washington Capitals when they won the Stanley Cup. He was also the head coach of the New York Islanders from 2018 to 2022.
“My heart has been in Nashville since that first season,” Trotz said.
“I believe I am prepared to succeed in the role of general manager in the NHL and for that I have David to thank. I will work vigorously as a member of David’s team for the next four months, and when I become the General Manager on the 1er July, I pledge to do everything I can to lead our franchise to its first Stanley Cup. »
